Ongoing Mission: Dead Week Stressbusters

Misson Description: After our successful events last quarter where we brought in licensed massage therapists, a car (thank you Inland Towing) for students to smash up with sledgehammers, and more, we successfully reduced stress on campus and raised final exam scores. We would have proof of that, but the work would be way too stressful for us. We are looking for some new, creative ideas to reduce stress on campus this quarter, and plan to repeat our successful ideas from last quarter.

Mission 4: Headstart Christmas Party

Mission Description: Each year, LSU holds a Christmas party for local headstart kids. We joined the SIFE Team and Pre-Med Society, along with several other student organizations to provide fun crafts and activities for the children. For our HOC booth, we brought out our kaleidoscope-making skills once again and make kaleidoscopes with more than 150 kids using only materials often thrown away after giftwrapping gifts.

Mission 3: Can Drive #2

Mission Description: This mission was a follow-up in the local community to our first can drive. We took these cans along with those from Mission #1 to boost supplies at our local food bank.

Mission 2: Riverwalk Health Fair

Objective: Create Kaleidoscopes and find new uses for household objects

Mission Complete: Over 75 individuals from the community crafted and took home Kaleidoscopes

On November 16, 2008, Eight HOC Agents ran two booths at the Loma Linda University Riverwalk Health Fair. Booth #1 taught kids of all ages how to make a kaleidoscope using a cardboard tube, wrapping paper, rubber bands, a plastic bag, and glass beads. Booth #2 engaged community members in finding new and creative ideas for objects found around the house. Designed to complement the opening of the new Loma Linda University Opthalmology Office, these activities showed others how to view the world around them in new and creative ways.

Mission 1: Trick or Can

On October 31, 2008, sixteen HOC Agents took to the streets surrounding the La Sierra University campus. In just two hours, agents collected 364 cans of food for needy families.
